Adrenals
**Note: If you frequently wake up in the middle of the night, you need to read: Why Do I Always Wake Up at 3am?
The adrenal glands, known as the “adrenals”, are two small organs that sit on top of the kidneys. The adrenal glands are primarily responsible for helping people deal with stress. They do this through the production of adrenaline, cortisol and a few other hormones.
Adrenal Fatigue
Every stressful thought that we have causes an unhealthy reaction in the body. When we are stressed, our bodies release adrenaline which is great if we are fighting for survival or trying to escape a deadly animal, but it is overkill in our everyday lives. Constant mental stress can lead to adrenal fatigue.
Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue Include:
- cravings for salt or salty foods
- trouble sleeping/insomnia
- lack of energy
- difficulty waking up in the morning
- cravings for simple carbohydrates
- laziness
Many people blame themselves for being overweight, but as you can see, adrenal fatigue could be the cause! Stressed adrenals can also lead to a variety of secondary issues including thyroid dysfunction. Adrenal fatigue is like a gateway to other health issues. Don’t despair! Adrenal fatigue can be managed through custom supplement regimen, water intake, stress management, good sleep habits and exercise.

[…]After you’ve been sugar-free for a few months it really does get simpler and simpler.[…]
I woke up this mrning at 3am and my blood pressure was 203/87. I was dizzy and my head felt like it would explode. I could feel my heart pumping; (boom boom boom) I wemt to the emergency room and it had come down significantly. They did and electrocardiogram and drew blood to check electrolites. They could find nothingwrong. Why did this happen/ is there something I can do to prevent it from happening again? I
This happened to me about five times this year….I was rushed to A&E given all the tests only to have heartbeat and BP correct itself over a few hours! Was told it was once off Arrhythmia .I have noticed that I’ll get this after eating sugary food which brings on upper wind and pressure at around 3am.
Thank you for the education. I’m only 36, however am discovering that I’ve been literally suffering from poor adrenal function for years and blaming myself for the results (weight gain, lazy feelings, unable to control reactions when overly stressed) and have lost relationships, jobs, and opportunities because of these things. I am now fully engaged in healing this in myself, and though it will take months or years to revers the effects I’m grateful that I have found some answers. Something not mentioned above that I’ve also learned … for women, testosterone is produced in the adrenals. Science has shown that in our society women’s testosterone levels tend to be WAY too high. Just another sign that especially for women in America, focus on adrenal health can correct many other issues.
